“When you ask yourself if we can make a difference, our answer is: You bet!” said a representative from Carbon Crusher. This road project showcases the power of innovative engineering to combat climate change.

In an impressive feat of sustainable construction, Carbon Crusher and Rummel Construction have successfully sequestered 84,000 kgs of CO2 in the Hutton Ranch Road project in Coconino County, Arizona. Traditional road construction often emits double the CO2 into the atmosphere, but through innovative techniques, this project has not only prevented emissions but also created a positive climate impact of 252,000 kgs of CO2 saved.

To put this into perspective, this is equivalent to the emissions generated by driving a medium-sized petrol car for 1,312,500 kilometers or driving it 32 times around the world.

The project was executed using Carbon Crusher’s Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) method, which reuses onsite materials down to 12 inches, drastically reducing the need for new resources and eliminating waste. For the first time in the U.S., Carbon Crusher’s BioBinder, a sustainable, non-toxic, and naturally dust-binding material, was injected into the crushing process. This cutting-edge binder ensures high-quality mixing and curing, delivering a road that is up to 70% stronger than traditional methods.

Partnering with Rummel Construction, a leader in heavy civil construction throughout the Southwest, Carbon Crusher delivered a road that is not only stronger but also environmentally friendly. Rummel Construction’s expertise in road engineering and their commitment to innovation made them the perfect partner for this groundbreaking project.

Nathan Reisner, PE, PTOE, Assistant County Engineer for Coconino County, expressed his satisfaction with the project:

“The road has held up well, even after two heavy rain fall events. Carbon Crushers and Rummel worked well together addressing issues and concerns, ultimately delivering a quality project.”

Coconino County is known for its vast and diverse landscapes, including parts of the Grand Canyon. As one of the largest counties in the United States, its commitment to sustainable infrastructure is crucial in protecting its natural beauty and resources.

Rummel Construction, founded in 1996, has earned a reputation for excellence in the Southwest. Their commitment to innovation and sustainability aligns perfectly with the goals of this project, making them ideal collaborators for this endeavor.

Carbon Crusher is at the forefront of revolutionizing road construction with its full-depth reclamation process. By reusing road materials and integrating non-toxic BioBinder, they create stronger, more durable roads that benefit both the environment and local communities. This project is an important milestone in their mission to build a greener, carbon-negative future.

This successful project serves as an example of what’s possible when sustainability, technology, and expert engineering come together to make a lasting, positive impact on both infrastructure and the environment.
